The audiologist will look in your ears to make sure they are free from wax. They will also make sure your ear piece fits correctly and comfortably.
Your hearing aid/s will be set up for your individual hearing loss using real ear measurements (REMs). All you have to do is face a speaker and stay still and quiet during the test. The audiologist will place a head set over your ears and place a thin tube into your ear canal. The audiologist will then play sounds through the speaker and will make adjustments to the hearing aid/s. The thin tube and head set will then be removed. If your ears are not suitable for this method the hearing aid/s will be set up using a different process instead.
The audiologist will then discuss what to expect from the hearing aid/s and how to get used to the sound.
The audiologist will give you instructions on how to use your hearing aid/s and the regular cleaning and maintenance it will need.
The audiologist will also give you information on any appropriate assistive listening devices (ALDs), bluetooth hearing aid features and apps available for use with your hearing aids.

You will be shown how to put the hearing aid in and how to remove it from your ear. You will practice this with the audiologist. If a carer or family member will be helping you with the hearing aid, please make sure they come to the appointment too.
